Veterinary Medicine

Compounding is absolutely critical in providing proper doses and dosage forms for different animals. The goal of compounding for the veterinary patient is to enhance the veterinarian’s ability to treat patients in a more effective and efficient manner. Different animals metabolize medications differently, so unique individualized medications are often required. At Northshore Pharmacy we can prepare:

  • Medications in the correct dosage for your individual pets
  • Unavailable medications that may be necessary
  • Combinations of medications to make administration and adherence simplified
  • Medications in dosage forms that fit individual needs i.e. suspensions with different flavors (beef, chicken, liver, fish).

Occasionally pets require medications that cannot be given orally. In these cases we can often incorporate the medication into a trans-dermal gel that is applied to the animal’s ear and rubbed into the skin, where it is then absorbed into the blood stream. Examples of some medications that this can be done for is methimazole, prednisolone, and amitriptyline.
